Kauai's Memorable Attractions

    See also Adventures

Imagine yourself at Marjorie's Kauai Inn one special night. You are far away from glaring city lights and you glance up at the darkest black-velvet sky you have ever seen.

Through clean-and-clear Pacific air, on an island thousands of miles from anywhere, you see a dazzling lace of diamond-white stars. You catch your breath, your skin tingles, and then you realize...

You have grasped a memory to carry with you forever. That is what visiting Marjorie's Kauai Inn is all about...Memories.

Move your mouse over the picture to see day and night photos of Marjorie's.
Imagine dawn on a whole mile of beach, with no footprints on it but your own, as you seek the comfiest sand to settle into to read that Hemingway novel you somehow neglected before. Palm-leaf shadows shade your pages. The scent on the breeze is only of pure sea... Memories.

You will be surprised at the memory making Kauai attractions you have to select from.
Rare tropical plants from around the world are preserved in the immense National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Marjorie's next-door neighbor. There, experts experiment with plant varieties that look like they arrived from Venus. The National Tropical Botanical Gardens, and other exotic gardens on the island, offer tours.

We can direct you to a variety of truly fine dining experiences. Have you heard of "Pacific Rim Cuisine"? That concept was invented on Kauai. But if you're looking for something more laid back, borrow our portable barbecue and go down to Shipwreck Beach. We will direct you to a place under a leafy tree where you will spend your evening listening to the Pacific surf.

So many visitors to Kauai miss the matchless charms of our island's rainbow culture. In the summer there are small-town festivals with hula, music and parades (ever see a boy scout troop march by wearing aloha shorts and slippers?) There are Bon Dances at night where Kauai residents of Japanese decent dress in their family's traditional silk attire. They gracefully perform a slow dance, in a large circle, in memory of their ancestors. These are happy events and all are welcome to observe and join in the joy.

We will guide you to a "Sunshine Market" where exactly at noon you rush to buy fresh tropical fruit, garden produce and exotic flowers. Under the tropical sun, you can make a memory having your first oh-so-cool sip from a fresh-cut Kauai coconut.

You don't have to miss the grandeur of Kauai's world-class resorts when you stay at Marjorie's Inn, you just miss world-class room prices. At Marjorie's, you are only minutes away from famous Poipu and three golf courses, all with spectacular views. (The inexpensive "local course," often unnoticed by visitors, has world-class island views. Green fees only $9.00). Tennis facilities are also close by, and matches easy to arrange.

Want to taste a truly rare, vintage single-malt scotch whiskey at the most beautiful bar in Hawaii? Stevenson's Library Lounge is just down the road. Stroll a resort's lush grounds and then explore shops for that perfect something to wear or find a treasure to take home. Fun.

Need to shed some stress? Ah, an afternoon at Keoniloa Cove is in order. It is off the beaten path, down an old sugar-cane-haul road, but it has a blue-and-turquoise lagoon surrounded by shady trees and sunny sand. Or, Marjorie can steer you to a palm-studded beach park that the local folks frequent. If you are lucky, you might hear the strumming of a Hawaiian slack-key guitar or a ukulele. We can help book an all-terrain vehicle or even a Harley for you when you arrive.

Then there are the treats for you movie buffs. An amazing number of famous shows have been filmed on Kauai. You can visit the front gate of Jurassic Park. See the waterfall of Fantasy Island ("Da Plane! Da Plane!). Have a beer where John Wayne and his buddies partied when filming Donavon's Reef. (John and his favorite director were both seriously ill and they thought death was immanent--so they decided to make their last movie together and have a romp on their favorite set--Kauai.)
Kauai is a movie-buff's heaven. You can stroll the same beach featured in South Pacific ("I can wash that man right out of my hair..."). Paddle the same river were Harrison Ford dodged native spears in The Raiders of the Lost Ark. You can visit the Queen's palm grove used for the famous wedding in Elvis's Blue Hawaii. And you can imagine King Kong peeking over just about any hill. Speaking of hills, not far away from Marjorie's Inn is the one Harrison Ford and Anne Heche leapt into the ocean from in the movie Six Days, Seven Nights.

Well, describing the attractions of Kauai can go on and on: "Art Night" in Old Hanapepe Town. Magnificent Waimea canyon, of course. You must see the time-sculpted cliffs of the world-famous Na Pali Coast. And, dig as deep as you like into the original Hawaiian culture of Kauai--"The Separate Kingdom" of Hawaii.

So many of the guests at Marjorie's Inn regret they didn't have longer to "Do More Than One Fun Thing A Day!" So plan a long stay with us making memories.
